Al Pearson

Al Pearson and Tom Ronan White Hat Scholarship Endowment

For more than 40 years, UND hockey was synonymous with the guy in the white hat.

Al Pearson, a 1965 UND grad who organized fan buses to hockey games for almost 40 years and was well known as being a UND superfan, passed away on April 5, 2023.

For many years, Al attended games with his good friend, Tom Ronan. After losing Tom to cancer in 2013, Al wanted to keep up their tradition of supporting UND Hockey — and he wanted their legacy to last forever.

Al led the charge to fundraise for the Al Pearson and Tom Ronan White Hat Scholarship Endowment, which supports UND Hockey summer programs.Through this scholarship, everyone can afford to make a difference.

This scholarship will help support summer school tuition and fees for UND Hockey student-athletes. To sustain the Department of Athletics history of excellence and position UND as a premier educational provider, it must be able to attract the best and brightest student-athletes.

Summer school support for hockey can be as high as $80,000 a year. You can help meet the challenge of funding summer school scholarships by making a gift to the Al Pearson and Tom Ronan White Hat Scholarship Endowment, which will benefit future UND student-athletes for years to come.
